✂️ Cutting by hand? Use PDF files.
🔌 Cutting machine? Use PNG and SVG or DXF files.
The PDF files include three different templates with size variations to help you optimize paper usage. The PNG files have a transparent background and sharp edges for smooth import into cutting machine software. The SVG and DXF files only have optional score lines for cutting machines.
IT IS AN EASY MANUAL ACTIVITY. In addition to printing, you must assemble the item. In this case, it is a paper cube, so you must score the fold lines, then cut, fold, and glue the printed designs, but no experience is required. Any of our printables can even be your first handmade paper decoration.
The designs included are ready to download, print, and use. No editing, waiting, expertise, or special tools are required.
Right after checkout, you can download your ZIP file. To view and access the designs, double-click the downloaded ZIP file. Print out the selected files, then cut out the designs you have printed and make a block or box. That's all.
You can print out your files at home or send them to a local print shop, copy center, or online printing service. To cut your printouts, a pair of scissors is all you need, but you can also use a craft knife or cutting machine, such as Cricut or Silhouette.
Matte photo paper and cardstock are always the best choices. If you're printing at home, the crucial step for high-resolution printing you might not be used to is setting the correct paper type and best print quality in your printer's dialog. And that's easy. For more details on this and other matters, see the topics below.
RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES
PAPER
Ideally, use US Letter or A4 medium-weight cardstock or matte photo paper. Example: 65 lb cover or 176 gsm.
SCORING TOOL
To score the fold lines, use a solid object with a straight edge, like a ruler, and a solid tool with a blunt point or tip, such as a butter knife, a bone folder, an inkless pen, or even a paper clip.
CUTTING TOOL
You only need scissors to cut, but you can also use a craft knife or cutting machine, such as Cricut or Silhouette.
GLUE OR DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE
To glue the flaps, use permanent glue or double-sided tape.
STEP 1 – BUY & DOWNLOAD
Your printable files come as a single ZIP file. Download it immediately after purchase: your download link will be available right after checkout.
Double-click the ZIP file once you've downloaded it to view your designs.
STEP 2 – PRINT
✂️ Cutting by hand? Use PDF files.
🔌 Cutting machine? Use PNG files.
Your files are ready to print. They are professionally designed and will print on inkjet or laser printers, including your home printer.
If you're printing at home, open your printer settings to select the correct paper type and print quality.
You can also print your designs at a local print shop, copy center, or use an online printing service. Popular options for printing online are staples.com and fedexoffice.com.
STEP 3 – SCORE
Scoring is easy, makes folding faster, and results in more beautiful folds. To score, line up a ruler with the fold lines and run the scoring tool (such as a butter knife or bone folder) along the ruler's edge. Try to apply even pressure along the way.
The scoring tool pushes the paper down, leaving indented lines. After cutting the designs, you will fold them on these indented lines, or creases.
Scoring by hand is quite simple, but if you are using a cutting machine, you can also use it to score with the SVG and DXF files included.
STEP 4 – CUT
Use a pair of scissors, craft knife, or cutting machine to cut out the designs from the printouts.
STEP 5 – FOLD
Fold the scored lines.
STEP 6 – GLUE
Apply permanent glue or double-sided tape to the flaps as close as possible to the boundaries between the flaps and the squares, that is, as close as possible to the folded lines.
There are three ways to glue the flaps:
• To make a closed block, glue all the flaps.
• To make a collapsible block (great for storing after use), leave the top and bottom lids unglued.
• To make a box, leave the top lid unglued.
That's it. Enjoy your unique alphabet block!
